Troubleshooting Gasoline Generators
Use these checks for common gasoline generator issues before requesting service. Always stop the engine and let it cool before inspection.
Generator will not start
- Confirm the engine switch is ON and the fuel valve is open.
- Check fuel level and use fresh gasoline.
- Check oil level. Low-oil protection can stop the engine from starting.
- Set the choke correctly for cold or warm starts.
- Inspect the spark plug and air filter if the unit has been used before.
No power output
- Reset the AC breaker or overload protector after removing connected loads.
- Confirm plugs and extension cords are rated for the load.
- Start the generator before connecting appliances.
- If voltage remains abnormal, stop using the generator and contact support.
